Great Light Leaks Effect for FCP

Crumplepop is an effects company is based out of Minneapolis that makes really REALLY cool templates for Final Cut Pro.  The price is insanely cheap! ($69US) for 57 various transitions and effects.  Well worth the money in my opinion.

I recently got to use the template Lumineux for some intro shots in Carrefour Nunavut promo videos.  The templates come in both Prores and H.264 formats and are so easy to use, literally just drag them in and hit the space bar!

Head on over to their website to check out Lumineux as well as their other products.  They’re affordable and add huge production value!  Click HERE for their website.

Foster the People – Pumped Up Kicks (Hood Internet Remix ft. Hollywood Holt)

I’ve been a big fan of Foster the People for a awhile now and didn’t know how I’d feel about a remix of this song.  It’s sick.  The breaks and basslines definitely make this.  Hollywood Holt does a pretty good job killing it also…

Ok well since this blog thing has started I figure I might share some of my musical insight here.

I Ruined These Songs for You Too (mixtape) by Intuition

I downloaded this little gem while searching for some new hip-hop.  This mixtape doesn’t get stopped much.  He’s taken indie rock and R&B songs that you’d never expect to here an mc on and will have your head nodding in no time.  The beats and lyrics are sick.  Give it a listen and you won’t be disappointed. Enjoy!

FCP X

So I’ve been hearing waaaaay to much about this program.  I have been editing with FCP since late 1999.  Yes folks, I’m now old.  I have had the opportunity to play around with FCP X for a few projects.  I’m not going to plot out point for point pros and cons of this program but just give my 2 cents right from the start.

It’s not for me.  I have edited on Final Cut, Media 100 and Avid and have pretty much only worked in Canadian broadcast television.  The rules of non linear editing have all been the same pretty much until now.  Media 100 and Avid I found took too much of my time to do the same things that I could do in FCP.  I spent years convincing the producers in my local production community that this program would be worth it.  As the program evolved they bit and now I live in an almost 100% FCP production community.  That was before FCP X though…

FCP X has perks, and lots of them, but then so does Sony Vegas and iMovie.  Apple has seemed to forget that they didn’t create the NLE format that thousands of editors abide to and are now trying to skip out on a few key factors that my industry relies on.  That paired with the learning curve and lack of upfront information from Apple has led me to finally get caught looking at another NLE…. Avid.  I’m still dearly tied to Apple since it’s given me 12 years of a career but I’m now forced to look at learning more then just one NLE.  I’ve heard this years ago from every Avid editor I came across but never took any of their advice.

Oh well, at least I have a few broadcast credits on an Avid Xpress… I’m really just hoping that Apple unveils some major update that reassures me that my career/job/livelyhood isn’t completely f*cked.
